Long & Foster Real Estate - The Tom Murphy Team
2421 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20037
Prior to becoming a real estate agent, David accumulated over 40 years of construction experience. He began as a laborer then progressed to carpenter, painter and painter foreman. He next worked for twenty years with his parents in their government residential renovation construction company, primarily as an estimator and contract negotiator. When his parents retired, he and his brother opened their own residential construction business which they ran for 12 years.
During this time, going to night school and working full time, he earned a business degree from the University of Maryland, graduating Summa Cum Laude. In 2003 he was awarded a law degree by American University's Washington College of Law.
Raised in rural Virginia near the banks of the Potomac River, he built his first home when he was 23 years old. He then moved to Washington, D.C., in the early 1980s. In 1997 he and his family moved to the Woodside Park community in Silver Spring, Maryland. They purchased a 1940 era house which he has renovated and restored to its near original conditon.
David's diverse occupational and educational background enhance his effectiveness as a real estate professional. He has, literally, a ground to roof understanding of residential home structures and systems. Very few real estate agents bring such a background to apply to property inspection. David is exceedingly qualified to help buyers understand what renovations would be feasible in particular structures. David has worked with first time buyers and investors and finds real satisfaction in helping them select appropriate properties.
His construction and legal background make David especially qualified to represent owners who are trying to sell their properties and either move up or downsize. He also has valuable experience in helping families sell property through an estate.
His past business experience, legal training in property, contracts, and agency law, plus a strong work ethic are a sound foundation for successfully representing clients in the sale or purchase of real property.
